Checked baggage

Number of baggage items allowed, weight limit, authorized content, and dangerous goods... Find out all you need to know about preparing your checked baggage in order to check in with ease.

Did you know? Since March 28, 2010*, the baggage transport rules for Air France flights are simpler and more beneficial to passengers: depending on your travel class, check 1, 2, or 3 baggage items weighing 23 kg each at no extra charge!

* If you purchased your ticket before March 28, 2010, the baggage allowance in effect is the one indicated on your Itinerary receipt.

Size and weight limits

Each baggage item must not exceed 23 kg/50 lb* and 158 cm/62 in. (height + length + width)**.
  • For baggage that weighs between 23 and 32 kg/70 lb. or measures more than 158 cm/62 in., you must purchase an additional baggage allowance.
  • For baggage weighing more than 32 kg/70 lb., prior authorization is required.

* Except for trips originating in Brazil. In this case, 2 checked baggage items of 32 kg each are allowed without charge in all travel classes.
** Except on flights to and from Corsica. Only the weight allowance applies on these flights, regardless of the number of baggage items.

A few tips

  • Remember to remove all labels from prior trips, as they may impede the delivery of your baggage.
  • Visibly indicate your name, permanent address, destination address, mobile telephone number and e-mail address on the inside and the outside of your baggage. Suitable labels are available at Air France check-in desks.
  • Avoid transporting fragile items in the hold. If you have no other option, ensure that these items are well protected or in their original packaging.
  • Practical information: baggage protection services are available at New York-JFK airport and at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.
Flying Blue Elite and Elite Plus member advantages
Are you a Flying Blue Silver, Gold, or Platinum member? To thank you for your loyalty, you can check an additional baggage item weighing less than 23 kg at no extra charge.
For example: you are a Flying Blue Silver member traveling in the Premium Eco cabin. The baggage allowance for this cabin lets you bring 2 pieces of baggage that weigh less than 23 kg free of charge. With your Flying Blue Silver card, you can check in one additional baggage item free of charge, for a total of 3 baggage items weighing 23 kg each.

Traveling with an infant

Are you traveling with an infant of under 2 years of age on your lap? Your infant’s baggage allowance lets you check in:
  • 1 baggage item weighing 10 kg/22 lb. maximum.
  • 1 fold-up stroller.

Sports equipment, musical instruments…

Want to transport a pair of skis, surfboard, or a set of golf clubs in the hold? Do you want to bring an oversized item, a stroller, musical instrument, or wheelchair? Special rules apply to the transport of these items.
